what it is
The "clicker" is a small application that will allow you to easily assemble and create a slide show presentation in a web browser. It's flexibility allows:
- playback from a web server or from a local, non networked computer
- multiple sets of captions (e.g. multilingual or dual content)
- audio narration via streaming Shockwave Audio or linked AIF / WAV audio files
- easy modification of functionality via editing of one HTML file
- instant jumps to any slide
- complete custom design of slide pages for any web content (i.e. links to local image files or ones stored at remote URLs).

what it requires

The clicker application itself weighs in at only 7k, not much more than the image above used it represent it!

using the clicker
It's pretty darn easy:
- Press forward and back buttons to move around in a slide show
- To jump to any other slide, click once on the clicker, type a number on your keyboard and press RETURN
- Click once on the clicker and press RETURN to go back to the opening title slide.
- If there are two sets of captions, you can toggle between them with radio buttons.
- If there is a sound button, click it to hear an audio narration.
- The clicker can also be configured to play the caption automatically when a new slide or caption is loaded.

some examples
We've created several examples using some of my photographs of the Grand Canyon. Due to my weak to non-existent foreign language skills, the Spanish audio was generated by using Apple's Spanish Text to Speech Utility and using the AltaVista Babelfish site for translating from English to Spanish text.
- Spanish and English captions, Streaming Shockwave Audio, AutoPlay Sounds
- Spanish and English captions, AIFF Audio, Manual Play Sounds
- Spanish and English captions, no audio
- English captions, Streaming Shockwave Audio, AutoPlay Sounds
- Spanish captions, WAV Audio, AutoPlay Sounds
- No captions, Streaming Shockwave Audio, Manual Play Sounds
- No captions, No Audio

how to guide
Here we show you how to set up your own slide shows using the clicker and provide some templates that you can download. You will have to edit one text file that contains the formatting for the clicker. It does not require that you learn HTML, but it would really help! (if you want to, we have an excellent tutorial called Writing HTML).
- Planning your show
- A bit about frames
- Setting up your files
- Creating your caption files
- Creating your slide image files
- Adding audio
- Configuring the clicker
- Download a template

legalese
The clicker costs $0.00! All that we ask is that you provide credit to our organization and link back to this page, i.e.
This slide show was created with the clicker, developed by Alan Levine at the Maricopa Community Colleges

We want people to use and experiment with the clicker. It's new and open to improvement. If you have developed a show you are most proud of, contact us and we'll list you among the examples above.
